Dragon Boat
Today’s image: it’s almost the time of year for the Duanwu (summer solstice) Festival , more commonly known as the Dragon Boat festival. Curiously enough, the tradition of racing boats has been kept up by Chinese communities outside of China, but is only just now coming back into popular tradition on the mainland (my theory is this tradition was one of many purposely snuffed out during the Cultural Revolution). This boat (a recreation of a Song Dynasty dragon boat) is obviously not the sporting type, but rather meant for a leisurely cruise around the lake while sipping a steaming cup of Dragon Well (龙井) tea.
