The contents of my bag
Today is a voyeuristic look into the contents of my bag (which I had to clean out anyway).
Contents as follows:
– 1 notebook and various textbooks for Chinese class
– 1 pill box containing several Ibuprofen pills
– 1 tube of Carmex (sent from the US because China doesn’t import Carmex)
– 1 electronic Chinese/English dictionary
– 1 houndstooth pattern umbrella (bought at the night market for 30 RMB)
– 1 phone
– 1 dual headphone jack splitter (useful for podcasts or audiobooks on long journeys)
– 1 pair of earbud headphones
– 1 pair of sunglasses (why is it a pair? I don’t know)
– 1 business card holder holding cards from several people I will probably never get in touch with again, and a few of my own
– 1 packet of tissues (an indispensable item here in China)
– 1 bottle of Extra cantaloupe flavored chewing gum
– 1 packet of throat lozenges with severe looking old guy on the cover
– 1 camera case (camera is usually inside but of course is not pictured here)
– 1 pen box holding two blue pens, one red pen, one orange pen, and one correction tape
– 1 set of keys including a 2GB USB thumb drive, apartment keys, and bike lock key
– 1 reusable shopping bag
– 1 wallet containing student card, library card, bank card, CA drivers’ license, and 135 RMB cash
– 1 bus pass with no money left on it
– 1 small notebook for jotting grocery lists, useful phrases, etc.
– 1 Bath & Body Works peach scented hand sanitizer
I think they’re called a pair because they derive from spectacles. One is a monacle, and two are a pair of spectacles. Sunglasses came after, but retained the terminology of “pair”.
